Prevent Gum Recession with Proper Oral Hygiene Habits

Nowadays, there are already a lot of people having problems on receding gums especially adults who are 40 years and over. People afflicted by this condition have a limited social life since they often refrain from smiling. The condition changes their appearance and sometimes, they often feel pain. The problem can be caused by different reasons but the main cause is seen to be poor dental hygiene.

People having gum disease usually experience tooth sensitivity. They complain that their teeth are painful to the touch and they need to avoid the consumption of certain drinks and foods. Oftentimes, they also notice that their gums bleed after brushing or flossing their teeth. When this occurs, the individual needs to visit his dentist and have the problem addressed. This must be done as soon as possible as this can lead to a lifetime of problems. A lot of people already have the disease and do not even know it. The gum issue needs to be attended to since this may lead to loss of teeth.

The severity of the problem is noticed when the gums turn pinkish and swollen. When this is neglected and left untreated for a long time, pus can form in the affected area and the person will experience too much pain. This can lead to infection which may expose the mouth and the other parts of the body to bacteria. Bacterial infection is harmful and may lead to other systemic disorders inside the body.

The condition is easily noticed when it is already in its advanced stage. Spaces or pockets may form in the gums until it starts to recede. The gums can be seen moving past the teeth and show signs of irritation. This is the time that a visit to the dentist is a must as he can diagnose the problem and recommend treatment to reverse receding gums.

There are some things that can be done at home when the gum disease is still in its early stages. This is to help grow back receding gums while reducing the pain experienced because of the gum problem. Brushing of the teeth must be done twice a day after meals while avoiding the use of toothbrush with hard bristles. Switch to the soft bristled brush to avoid damaging the gums further. Do not brush too hard since this will definitely cause the infected area to cause more irritation. Flossing also helps in removing food particles that are trapped between the teeth reducing irritation and mouth problems.

However, once the gums have receded, there is no way to help them grow back. The only way to stop further damage is to implement a daily dental hygiene regimen of brushing and flossing. Use a mouth rinse to eliminate the harmful bacteria in the mouth as well as choosing the right types of product in treating the condition.
