Gum Infection Treatment

Posted by admin

Gum infection is a state of health which should never be ignored as it can lead to serious health complications.  Not all medications work to a certain degree as we all have varied lifestyles.  Depending on the severity of gum disease, the following natural remedies may work:

ü  Vitamin C – Gum disease is often attributed to deficiency in vitamin C.  A study found that people with low intakes of vitamin C had higher rates of gum infection.  People who consumed less than the recommended dietary allowance has higher risk of developing severe gingivitis.  Vitamin C is considered a gum disease treatment because it is an antioxidant and is needed to repair connective tissue and accelerate bone generation.  To boost vitamin C intake, eat foods rich in vitamin C such as grapefruit, mango, papaya, oranges, strawberry, etc.  You may also opt to take vitamin C in supplement form but avoid one which in chewable form because the acidity may cause erosion of tooth enamel over time.

ü  Vitamin D – Vitamin D has an inflammatory effect and may reduce susceptibility to gum disease.  A study has found that people with higher blood vessels of vitamin D were less likely to experience bleeding gums during gingival probing. Sun exposure is a major source of vitamin D.  Sun exposure of 10 to 15 minutes at least twice a week is therefore recommended.  If sun exposure is not sufficient, consider a multivitamin with at least 200 IU.

ü  Coenzyme Q10 – Low levels of coenzyme q10 is also a contributory factor to gum disease.  This antioxidant made naturally in the body is widely fond in foods and also available in supplement form.  Coenzyme q10 is needed to properly repair gum tissue.

ü  Tea tree oil – Tea tree oil has proven antibiotic properties and is effective with severe chronic gingivitis it can significantly reduce the degree of gingivitis and bleeding.

ü  Reduce stress – Stress can increase plaque accumulation which is one of the major factors of gum disease. It may seem psychological but a study has actually found a significant relationship between rates of plaque and gingivitis to stress.  After all, it may all be due to stress.

For gum infection treatment, it is always safer to explore natural treatment for possibilities of side effects are much lesser with them.  Chemical-based medication may contain ingredients that are not safe, especially for hypersensitive patients.  Its toxic and harmful substance may even intensify gum disease leading to a need for painful and expensive surgery.

Thus, be wary of choosing dental care products.  Look for all-natural toothpaste and mouthwash proven for effective cure of gum infection.  Search the web for gums disease treatment that really works!
